How to build a watchlist that stays small

Jan 6, 2025 · 5 min read

A watchlist is a decision support tool—not a trophy case. If it grows endlessly, it becomes background noise.

Use a “why” rule

Add a ticker only if you can finish this sentence: “I want to watch this because…” If the reason is vague, skip it.

Keep two lists in your head

  • Actively watching: the handful you check weekly.
  • Parking lot: interesting, but not urgent.

Stock Monitor’s watchlist is best used for the “actively watching” set.

Open your watchlist and trim anything you haven’t looked at in a month.
